COMMUNITY & WELLNESS

MRF facilitate wellness events and community based events, including existential workshops, recreational day trips, and participation in other special events such as parades, film screenings, and cross cultural seminars. Through this initiative, MRF’s goal is to provide avenues for stress reduction, communication, storytelling, and camaraderie through shared experiences and a network of peer support.

Phoenix Series Workshops

One day holistic and comprehensive workshops focused on areas of identity building, stress reduction, insight, and personal growth. Activities include guided meditation, storytelling, art and drama therapy, music performance, writing, and meditation/movement practices (e.g. Qi Qong, Yoga). These events are free of charge to all participants.

SONG WRITING SEMINARS

In partnership with Music for all Seasons, Voices of Valor Program,
MRF provides eight week song writing seminars, where professional musicians lead groups of veterans in song-writing and production. Songs revolve around veteran identity themes. Process is concluded with a release party, where veterans play their finished product for a group of fellow veterans, family members, and community members.

ADVENTURE-BASED ACTIVITIES

Local events that are action-oriented, such as runs, hikes, races, sporting events, and team building activities.

FISHING TRIPS

One day events inviting service members/veterans and their guests on a chartered boat fishing off the shores of Long Island. These events provide opportunities for stress reduction, recreation, peer-to-peer networking, and a positive experience. These events are free of charge to all participants.

RELATIONAL FORUMS

Community-centric, and project-driven events that promote social construction and connectedness within the veteran community and amongst veterans and civilians.

SPECIAL EVENTS

MRF hosts veterans and their family members to participate in special events such as local parades (e.g. Little Neck- Douglaston Memorial Day Parade, Veterans Day Parade in New York City). This provides community building, memorialization of service, and socialization for military members and their families.
